From Standards for School Library Media Programs In Maryland, revised Oct. 2014, "School library media programs are essential to student achievement and college and career readiness. They provide all students and staff members with equitable and timely access to ideas and information. Through an integrated instructional program, school library media specialists ensure that students and staff are ethical, effective users of ideas and information, and lifelong learners.”

Currently serving over 550 student learners, our media program at FES fully embraces the vision of Maryland’s School Library Media Program and the vision of our school. Starting with our kindergarteners, we explore literature, introduce research skills that develop information literacy, start discussing what it means to be a good digital citizen, and teach students how to navigate our media center and its tools. Once they have become familiar with using our student computers, we even spend some time experimenting with coding. With each consecutive year, we build upon the information in these areas and students become more knowledgeable, capable, and independent.

Our media center has 12 computers that are used to access our Destiny catalog, eBooks, databases, electronic resources, and school appropriate websites. We have 300 eBooks and approximately 15,000 books carefully chosen for the age and interests of the students and teachers. You can access our Destiny catalog from home.
